The exhibition entitled: Manuals at Gallery Moon in Tokyo consists mainly of drawing works. These are works made on crafted paper with irregular shapes as well as small drawing objects.
Wojciech Pukocz‘s drawings illustrate everyday life. The depicted figures, dressed in tracksuits, pyjamas or prison clothes, perform activities established by routine and necessity: they take a nap, pray, return from shopping, numb themselves for a while in mindlessness, remaining notoriously lonely. Nothing untoward happens, as if the lives of these characters have been programmed or follow some general, universal instruction to act. What is surprising is that these characters are apparently rats disguised as humans. It is also possible that they are humans who are slowly and effectively, as instructed, transformed into uncomplicated rats.
The author of another group of drawings and drawing objects is Przemek Pintal. Simplified human figures, fragments of their bodies reduced to signs, seem entangled in relations with other, half-human, half-abstract forms. At times, the abstract forms are arranged into signs or messages that are not always comprehensible. Their complexity and insistent intensity bear the hallmarks of persuasion and agitation and not always friendly interaction. Another group of works are simple drawings depicting figures of tennis players holding flags in their hands instead of tennis racquets. Instead of duelling on the court, fighting for cups, they are fighting their opponents in the streets, demonstrating. They are participating in a different kind of game, a different kind of manipulation.
