About the event

Open Call|「

(Undefined Islands)

Open Call | “Body Under the Moonlight II: An Intimate Relationship” International Art Exhibition

Exhibition Dates | May 11 (Mon) – May 17 (Sun)

Venue | Moon Gallery & Studio, Tokyo

Chief Curator | Undefined Islands

Moonlight has never belonged to just one person.

It always emerges slowly, within relationships.

Between mother and daughter, lovers, wives and partners,

or those relationships yet to be named—

how is the body perceived, touched, and inscribed

in moments of closeness and distance?

We focus on the complex and subtle tensions within intimacy:

tenderness and control, dependence and escape, love and harm,

as well as the unspoken emotions and experiences in between.

As the second chapter of “Body Under the Moonlight,”

this exhibition turns its gaze toward “the body in relation,”

inviting artists to rethink, from a female perspective—

how the body is shaped, suppressed, and re-expressed within relationships.

Creative Directions (for reference)

• Mother–daughter relationships: inheritance and rupture, memory and identity

• Intimacy and distance: boundaries and tensions within relationships

• Body and power: who speaks, and who is silenced?

• Care and dependence: the complex entanglement of love and responsibility

• Invisible relationships: emotional connections that cannot be named

Submission Information

Accepted Media:

All forms are welcome (painting, installation, video, new media, sound, text/poetry, etc.)

Submission Materials:

• Images or videos of works (up to 5 pieces)

• Artwork description (within 500 words)

• Artist bio & portfolio link

Deadline: April 25

Notification of Selection: April 29

Fees:

Free to apply. Selected artists are required to pay a venue fee of JPY 15,000 (including installation costs).

Exhibition Perspectives

• Relational: the body belongs not only to the individual, but also exists “between people”

• Emotional: focusing on experiences and feelings that are difficult to articulate

• Multi-layered: the intertwined structures of love, attachment, control, and conflict

Under the moonlight,

rewrite your body,

and rewrite your relationship with others.

It may be an intimate memory,

or a distance that can never be bridged.
